The PHEF hosted its second CEO’s forum with the Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi on 28 November at the Sandton Convention Centre. The forum was attended by the Minister of Health, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla and a number of CEO’s of most of the companies represented in the PHEF.
The CEO’s Forum is a platform that allows the private health sector to engage with and strategically assist the Minister and National Department of Health with initiatives that address the challenges facing the health sector. The forum ensures greater collaboration and cooperation between the public and private sector in pursuing shared goals for the collective benefit of the health of all South Africans.
The Minister shared his vision for the SA healthcare system and also lauded the PHEF and the Social Compact on the progress made with regards to all the projects undertaken. The meeting was a positive step and gave way for a very healthy engagement between the parties on various issues such as the Government’s perceived lack of appetite to concluding any meaningful PPP’s and the need to strengthen procurement and supply chain in the public sector. In addition, the Minister shed some light on the NHI process.
The forums will continue in 2015 to ensure continuous discussions and co-operation of the entire health sector in ensuring visible support and contribution of the private sector to the healthcare in the country.
